8x10 Acrylic on Canvas.
Art has always been an important part of my life. I went into college undecided and was toying with the idea of turning art into a career. When I chose social work, I figured art would become less significant in my life. With leading and work on top of school, I have way less time for creativity. As you can tell from this Instagram feed, I am only able to squeeze art into my schedule when I am doing commissions.
This piece is different.
At my job, I have the privilege of working with homeless youth on improving their life skills and mental health. For the past couple of months, I have been hosting art groups for our young people over zoom.
Last night, I got to spend time talking to the young people about self growth while we painted. I loved hearing about what growth meant to them and watching them express it on canvas.
I am thankful that I get to incorporate art into my job and even more thankful for the opportunity to share this coping skill with people I care so much about.
